The Wembley Stadium

The Wembley Stadium, also known as the New Wembley, is the second largest stadium in Europe. The New Wembley football stadium is located in Wembley and it was reconstructed in the year 2007 on the site of the previous Empire Stadium.

The Empire Stadium which was known as ‘The Twin Towers’ was one of the most famous football stadiums in the world and it was demolished in the year 2003. New Wembley was designed by Populous, Foster and partners and it was built at the cost of £798 million.

Besides football, many other events take place in the New Wembley Stadium and concerts are the major events that take place there. The concert by George Michael in 2007 was the first concert at the New Wembley.

Metallica, Green day, Foo Fighters, Madonna, Coldplay, Oasis, Take That and AC/DC are the other bands that have performed at the wembley stadium.

Concert for Diana to commemorate ten years after the death of princess Diana and Live Earth are two charity concerts that have been held at Wembley. The first FA Cup Final at Wembley was between Manchester and Chelsea. The stadium has hosted some memorable charity and sporting moments.
